Why Cotton Pettipants Make Thigh Chafing Worse in Summer (And the Smarter Fix You Need)

pantaloncino antisfregamento elegante

Summer hits, you throw on your favorite dress or skirt, and boom, thigh chafing ruins your day. That burning feeling between your legs? It’s the worst.

A lot of us reach for cotton pettipants because they feel soft and natural. But here’s the truth: cotton can actually make chafing worse when it’s hot and sweaty out. Yep, you heard that right.

Why Cotton Actually Makes Chafing Worse When It’s Hot

Cotton soaks up sweat like a sponge. In spring or cooler days it’s okay.

But in July heat? That moisture just sits in the fabric, gets heavy and sticky, and rubs your skin raw with every step. Runners and dermatologists have been saying this for years: once cotton gets damp, it traps heat and moisture against your thighs. It doesn’t dry quickly, so it’s easier for your skin to get irritated.

Real Women, Real Stories (You’re Not Alone)

It’s easy to find reviews from women who used to love cotton pettipants, everyone is obviously and understandably into natural fibers… until summer hits and you start sweating. Sound familiar? Walking around town, running errands, chasing kids at the park, sweat builds fast, and cotton turns into a soggy disaster that sticks and slides.

The Simple Switch That Actually Works: Lycra Pettipants

So, what should you wear instead? Switch to Lycra pettipants (or spandex blends). These fabrics are made for this exact problem. Lycra doesn’t absorb sweat – it wicks it away. That means moisture gets pulled off your skin and evaporates fast.

You stay dry, cool, and chafe-free all day. Plus, Lycra has super stretch that hugs your body without rolling up or bunching. It moves with you, not against you.

These type of fabrics are literally designed for this problem:

  • Moisture-wicking → sweat gets pulled away and evaporates fast
  • 4-way stretch → hugs your legs without rolling or bunching
  • Quick-dry & lightweight → stay cool and dry even on 100°F days

Real talk from fitness pros: Synthetic fabrics like Lycra beat cotton every time for hot weather anti-chafing. They’re lightweight, breathable when blended right, and way more comfy during movement.

The Slip Shorts Dilemma!

Ever Wish You Had Eyes in the Back of Your Head on Escalators? Meet the Ultimate Slip Shorts Solution

While you can’t have extra eyes, you can have a slip shorts for confidence and style.

The miniskirt, since the 1960s, has been a symbol of liberation and self-expression. However, with its daring hemline comes a set of challenges that many women grapple with. Concerns about modesty, exposure to elements, and finding the right balance between style and practicality are common.

Let’s explore these concerns and discover the stylish and practical solutions!

Have you ever found yourself opting for pants over the perfect skirt, fearing an awkward situation might reveal your underwear?

The miniskirt’s enduring popularity is unquestionable. From its origins in the Swinging Sixties to its resurgence in modern fashion, the miniskirt has evolved while retaining its essence of defiance and liberation.

However, wearing a miniskirt often poses practical challenges. Women frequently express concerns about accidental exposure, especially in windy conditions or during ordinary activities.  Additionally, the discomfort of sitting on public or outdoor seating without adequate protection can detract from the skirt’s appeal.

Slip shorts worn beneath skirts and dresses have become a universally acknowledged solution for various occasions. Recognized not just for their ability to provide discretion from prying eyes, these garments are celebrated for their practicality. Importantly, for many women, the anti-chafing benefits are essential, making slip shorts invaluable for comfortably enjoying warmer spring and summer days in their cherished outfits.

However, it’s crucial to consider whether the fabric of these garments truly benefits the skin and sensitive areas they aim to protect.

Many slip shorts are made from materials that essentially mimic plastic bags, trapping heat and moisture. This can lead to excessive sweating and humidity in the genital area, creating conditions that are not only uncomfortable but potentially conducive to skin irritations and infections.

Under The Skirt

The underwear you’re wearing right now (I hope) is a garment that tells much more than just providing essential functionality.

Few garments tell a richer story than the slip shorts, history, function, and culture all woven together.

From Forbidden Venetian Braghesse to Modern Slip Shorts: The Scandalous True Story

From the 16th century Venice, “braghesse” referred to wide, gathered shorts, usually knee-length, worn by Venetian courtesans. Eventually  these early forms of women’s underwear were tolerated long before undergarments became acceptable in the wardrobe of a “respectable” woman.

Niclauss Kippel’s Book of Italian Costumes, 1588

There was a time (and it lasted quite a while) when the mere idea of a woman wearing trousers was considered as scandalous as getting drunk in church.

However, braghesse, these shorts, were long tolerated (if not imposed) on Venetian courtesans of the 16th century.

Diversarum nationalum Habitatus di Pietro Bertelli; Italia 1590

In the 16th century, Catherine de’ Medici, a central figure at the French court, introduced the use of breeches among her ladies-in-waiting, resembling structured underwear, to allow greater freedom of movement.

Even though they did not immediately become part of everyday fashion, they opened the door for the acceptability of women’s trousers in practical and aristocratic contexts.

For centuries, in fact, the idea of wearing something under the skirt was considered improper for a respectable woman (eventually they wore nothing under the long chemises).

However only between the late 18th and early 19th centuries did underpants become a stable part of women’s wardrobes: Such innovations were wide and long pants, open at the crotch, worn under layers of clothing.

These garments were called “mutandoni” or “calzoncini” and were meant for decorum, not seduction.

The 19th century and the evolution into the “grandmother’s drawers.”

In Victorian England, the use of women’s underpants (previously considered improper) spread among respectable women. Moreover Queen Victoria, an icon of bourgeois decorum, wore them and contributed to their social acceptability. Along with chemises, petticoats, and corsets, therefore these undergarments became essential underwear of the time.

But English women did not compromise on style: under crinolines, hand-sewn lace, ribbons, and embroidery moved. As a result, seduction remained, but it shifted from the visible to the tactile.

The idea that underwear should be functional but also refined, that it should serve but also please, was born during these years. Eventually it quickly caught on.

At the end of the 19th century, something changed. In Paris, cancan dancers (like Jane Avril or La Goulue) lifted their skirts and stirred controversy by revealing their embroidered culottes.

Indeed it was a theatrical gesture, certainly, but also a declaration. For this reason the idea that underwear could have a visual identity begins there.

La Troupe de Mademoiselle Églantine – Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec; 1896
A l’Elysee Montmartre, Toulouse Lautrec – 1888

Between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, underwear became lighter. Therefore drawers were shortened, corsets softened. With the 1914 patent for the bra by Mary Phelps Jacob, a new era began: one where lingerie no longer just shaped the body, but also identity.

The miniskirt cuts its way into history: and it’s above the knee

In the span of one season, everything changed. As a result underwear, previously invisible, now had to also protect against accidental glances. Therefore panties became tighter, tights replaced gartered stockings, lines slimmed down. Fashion revealed legs, and the body was free to move.

Bert Stern (1929-2013), Twiggy, Vogue Paris, 1967

As a result in the 1970s and 1980s, two trends alternated: on the one hand, comfort, with the spread of cotton briefs, wireless bras, and bralettes; on the other, chic exhibitionism (Madonna on stage with Gaultier’s bustier, supermodels in lingerie on the runway).

Lingerie emancipated itself: no longer just function, but a declaration.

And today?

The slip shorts history is rooted in utility, but has evolved into style.

Today, women’s lingerie is a field of technical and narrative experimentation. Shaping garments sculpt without constriction, in addition fibers are light, breathable, sustainable. And slip shorts become the modern equivalent of the Venetian braghesse: crafted to protect against wind, chafing, and gazes.

Rose & Leoni is an Italian brand that promotes this modern garment, inspired by the original use of intimate apparel: functional, discreet, intelligent.

Its Levantina slip shorts are neither underwear nor outerwear. These under layers are worn over the underwear, like a slip turned into shorts. An elegant response to a practical need. An item that reflects, without mimicking, the Italian tradition of beautiful utility.

What Are Slip Shorts?

levantina slip shorts by rose leoni

If you’ve ever worn a dress, skirt, or shorts during the warmer months, you might have faced the discomfort of chafing. It’s a common problem, and whether you’re dealing with thigh rub or just prefer an extra layer of comfort and coverage, slip shorts are the solution.

Here’s everything you need to know about this wardrobe essential and why it’s quickly becoming a favorite for many.

What Are Slip Shorts?

Slip shorts are a type of undergarment designed to be worn under dresses, skirts, or shorts.

They’re made from soft, lightweight fabrics like cotton or blends of spandex, making them incredibly breathable and comfortable. Slip shorts aren’t just for certain body types, they’re for anyone who wants a little extra comfort and coverage under their clothes.

Whether you’re looking to avoid chafing or simply prefer a smooth look under your dress, slip shorts are a versatile solution

One important purpose is to prevent chafing (that annoying friction that happens when your thighs rub together). They act as a smooth barrier to reduce friction, letting you move confidently and comfortably throughout the day.

Why Should You Wear Slip Shorts?

Here’s why slip shorts are quickly becoming a wardrobe essential for people of all shapes and sizes:

1. Say Goodbye to Chafing

Chafing is a common issue when wearing dresses and skirts, especially in hot weather. Slip shorts solve this problem by acting as a smooth layer between your thighs, helping you stay comfortable all day long. Whether you’re walking, sitting, or running errands, these under layers prevent chafing and let you enjoy your day without discomfort.

2. Smooth and Invisible Fit

Slip shorts do more than just protect your skin, they also provide a smooth silhouette under your clothes. Unlike bulky shapewear, which can feel restrictive and uncomfortable, slip shorts fit comfortably and are discreet under dresses, skirts, and even jeans. The lightweight fabric ensures they stay invisible and don’t add any extra bulk.

3. Versatility for Any Occasion

You can wear them under dresses for a sleek look, under skirts for added coverage, or even as loungewear for comfort at home. They’re perfect for travel too, as they provide comfort without taking up too much space in your suitcase.

4. Ideal for Every Body Type

Made to be comfortable for everyone, whether you’re petite or plus-size. They provide a layer of comfort and coverage that makes you feel confident no matter what you’re wearing. If you want to avoid showing anything you’d rather keep private or just feel more secure in your outfit, slip shorts are the perfect solution.

Slip Shorts for Summer Dresses

Rose&Leoni Slip Shorts

When the temperature rises and summer dresses make their way into your wardrobe, comfort and style should always go hand in hand. However, if you’ve ever worn a dress in warm weather, you’ve probably experienced the discomfort of chafing or the feeling of your outfit shifting out of place. This is where slip shorts come in.

In this post, we’ll show you why slip shorts are an essential summer accessory, how to style them with your dresses, and why they’re the must-have garment for the season.

What Are Slip Shorts?

Slip shorts are lightweight, breathable undergarments that you wear underneath dresses, skirts, or even shorts. They are designed to prevent thigh chafing, add an extra layer of comfort, and give you a smooth silhouette under your clothes.

Unlike traditional shapewear, slip shorts don’t pinch or roll. They simply provide a layer of protection from friction, allowing you to move freely and confidently without worrying about discomfort.

Why Slip Shorts Are a Summer Essential

1. Prevent Chafing on Hot Days

Chafing can be one of the most uncomfortable things to deal with during the summer months, especially when wearing dresses or skirts. It happens when your thighs rub together, causing irritation and discomfort.  Slip shorts act as a barrier between your thighs, preventing the friction that causes chafing. With slip shorts, you can wear your favorite summer dress without worrying about discomfort, even on the hottest days.

2. Smooth, Invisible Fit Under Dresses

Slip shorts offer a seamless and smooth fit, which means they won’t show under your dress or skirt. Unlike bulky shapewear, which can feel restrictive and create visible lines under your clothes, slip shorts are designed to be discreet.  Whether you’re wearing a casual sundress or a more formal evening dress, slip shorts will provide extra coverage .

3. Versatility: Perfect for Every Dress Style

Slip shorts are incredibly versatile and can be worn under any type of summer dress. Whether you’re dressing up for a day out or dressing casually for a beach trip, slip shorts can make a huge difference in how you feel in your dress.

  • Under casual dresses: Slip shorts provide comfort and coverage, especially if you’re wearing a flowing dress that might ride up during the day.

  • Under fitted dresses: For more form-fitting styles, slip shorts give you a smooth, seamless look, eliminating any concerns about underwear lines or shifting fabric.

  • Under a maxi or midi dress: If you love wearing long dresses but want to ensure that everything stays in place, slip shorts will keep you comfortable while adding that extra layer of coverage.

4. Keep Cool and Comfortable

Summer dresses are all about staying cool while looking stylish, and slip shorts help you do just that. Made from breathable, moisture-wicking fabrics, slip shorts will help you stay comfortable in the heat. Whether you’re walking, sitting, or standing, you won’t have to worry about feeling sticky or uncomfortable.

5. Ideal for Every Body Type

Slip shorts are not only for those with specific body types, they’re for anyone who wants to enjoy the summer season comfortably. Whether you have a petite frame or are plus-sized, slip shorts can fit every body shape.

2. For Weddings and Special Events

Slip shorts are a great option for wearing under dresses for formal occasions, including weddings and special events. They provide extra comfort and help ensure that your dress stays in place all day, especially if you’re wearing something with a full skirt or delicate fabrics.

3. Relaxed Barbecue or Outdoor Party

Comfy Chic: Feel Like Pajamas, Look Like Pinterest

Let’s cut the fluff.

You want to feel good in your clothes. You want soft fabrics, stretchy waistbands, freedom to move.
But you also want to look sharp. Cool. Effortlessly put together.
Not like you just rolled out of bed and gave up on life.

Here’s the Good News: You Can Have Both
Denim dress with Rose&Leoni Classy Slip Shorts with Tulle Insert

The fashion world has finally caught up with real life. Comfy is no longer a crime. It’s a statement. And the right comfy chic outfit can say:

“I know who I am. I’ve got stuff to do. And I still look good doing it.”

Why Comfy Doesn’t Have to Mean Sloppy

Here’s the truth: looking put together is not about tight clothes or stiff fabrics.
It’s about balance. Structure + softness.

Chill + style.

Think:

  • Relaxed shorts with tailored blazers

  • Oversized sweaters with sleek jewelry

  • Featherlight slip shorts with a crisp white shirt

That’s comfy chic. It doesn’t try too hard, but it still says “I’ve got taste.”

Celebs Do It. Stylists Do It. You Can Too.

Ever seen Zendaya walking through LAX in flowy trousers and a crop top?

Or Hailey Bieber in bike shorts and an oversized coat? They’re not sacrificing comfort. They’re elevating it.

The formula? Simple pieces. Quality fabric. Clean lines. A pop of intention. You don’t need a stylist. You need pieces that do the work for you.

What’s In It for You?

  • You look stylish without suffering

  • You feel comfortable without looking lazy

  • You get dressed in 2 minutes and still turn heads

  • You stop buying clothes you regret after one wear

And let’s be honest: when you’re comfortable, you’re more confident.
That’s not fashion talk. That’s life.

Stop Choosing Between Looking Good

and Feeling Good

You can have both.
You deserve both.
So next time you’re getting dressed, ask yourself:

“Does this feel like pajamas but look like a Pinterest board?”

If the answer is yes: you nailed it.

That’s comfy chic. And you just leveled up.

Lace Fashion Trend

Rose&Leoni Levantina Slip Shorts black lace

A lace fashion trend is making a big comeback, adding a touch of elegance and femininity to today’s fashion. While lace was once reserved for special occasions, it’s now being used in everyday outfits. Whether it’s a lace dress or a simple lace-trimmed accessory, this delicate fabric adds sophistication while staying versatile for both casual and formal looks.

The Evolution of Lace

Lace has a rich history but has moved beyond formal wear. Designers are now blending lace with modern styles, making it a key part of today’s fashion. You can pair lace with leather jackets or oversized blazers for a fresh look. For a more laid-back vibe, try a lace top with jeans or skirts to balance elegance with casual cool. Mixing lace with denim, silk, or wool also gives outfits a modern edge.

How to Wear Lace with Confidence

Not sure how to pull off lace? Start small with lace-trimmed blouses or skirts that can easily be styled up or down. Layering with jackets or cardigans keeps your look balanced. For something bold, pair a lace bodysuit with baggy pants or a blazer for a mix of soft and structured styles. If you prefer a more classic look, a lace dress paired with simple accessories always works.

Lace fashion for Every Occasion

Lace isn’t just for evening wear—it works for any time of day. Try a lace-trimmed camisole under a blazer for work, or go for a full lace dress with statement heels for an evening out. Not ready for a full lace outfit? Start with lace accessories like scarves or bags for a subtle nod to the trend.

For a casual daytime look, pair a lace top with jeans and sneakers, and switch to heels and bold jewelry for a night out.

Levantina Slip Shorts: Your Stylish Comfort

Lace is elegant, but staying comfortable is key. That’s where Levantina Slip Shorts come in. Designed for a smooth fit under lace garments, these ultra-light shorts keep your look sleek and prevent bunching. Whether you’re wearing a lace dress or skirt, Levantina Slip Shorts ensure you feel comfortable and confident all day.

Pair your plaid skirt with Levantina Basilica Nero slip shorts for an extra touch of style, adding that beautiful lace layer for a refined look.

Style tip: Try a classic plaid skirt with a turtleneck for a sophisticated fall outfit.

3. Corporate Skirts

One of the easiest ways to embrace fall skirts trends is by choosing a silhouette that flatters your frame. Corporate skirts are making a statement this season. These skirts offer a polished yet bold silhouette, perfect for power dressing. Whether for the office or a night out, corporate skirts embrace sophistication and confidence.

4. Pleated Mini Skirts

Pleated mini skirts are one of the most versatile fall pieces. Whether you’re heading to the office or going for a more casual look, the pleated mini can be styled for any occasion. Levantina Tosa offer an extra layer of style and comfort underneath. The tulle detail adds a touch of elegance and sophistication, making sure you’re both comfortable and stylish.

5. The Glossy Skirt

Leather skirts are a timeless wardrobe staple, especially during fall. Whether you’re pairing them with a chunky sweater or a sleek bodysuit, leather skirts offer countless styling possibilities.

Style tip: For a sleek, edgy look, pair a leather skirt with a fitted top and ankle boots.

6. The Sheer Skirt

Sheer skirts are trending again this fall, and it’s all about “naked dressing” on the runways. These skirts can be tricky to style, but pairing them with more conservative tops like turtlenecks or long coats adds balance. Levantina slip shorts keep you confidently covered under transparent fabrics, letting you embrace this daring trend with ease.

What Are Slip Shorts?

Slip shorts are undergarments designed to provide coverage and comfort under skirts and dresses. Unlike traditional slips, slip shorts combine the functionality of slips with the flexibility of shorts. As a result, they’re ideal for giving you coverage without the bulk or discomfort. Plus, they’re lightweight and breathable, which makes them great for all-day wear.

The Layer Your Wardrobe Has Been Missing

These garments offer unmatched comfort, thanks to their breathable fabrics. Certainly they also help prevent chafing, keeping you cool and comfortable throughout the day. If you’ve ever been concerned about accidental exposure in windy conditions, they provide the coverage you need. Additionally, they smooth out your silhouette without feeling as tight as shapewear, making them perfect for any occasion.

How to Choose the Right Slip Shorts

When shopping, it’s important to choose high-quality fabrics that are soft and breathable. Look for materials like cotton or Lycra to ensure comfort all day long. The length of the shorts is also key. For shorter skirts, go for mid-thigh lengths, while knee-length shorts are ideal for longer skirts or dresses.
